Last night was a special night for music lovers, music artists and any and everybody in the entertainment business. The 2016 Grammys had the best of the best in mainstream music in the audience and onstage, such as Justin Beiber, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Adele, and even Kendrick Lamar, just to name a few. Yes, all of the heavy hitters and the Who’s Who in the music industry and entertainment business came out to celebrate great music, live performances, and well deserved award acceptances.
In celebration of music royalty and identifying the most popular songs, albums, and music videos of the year, the 2016 Grammys was very eventful. Over the last 2-3 years, Millennials of all backgrounds, financial statuses, and arenas have expressed their dyer need of change in today’s American society and worldwide. The millennials have made it their mission to be themselves and promote unity, their cultures, and their need to revolt against the status quo. Knowing this, rapper/ lyricist/ and music genius, Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 Hip Hop album, To Pimp a Butterfly was all of that and then some. Needless to say, Mr. K Dot’s performance was a movie, a celebration, a history lesson, and a culture adjustment that needed to be expressed.
Kendrick Lamar took advantage of his time and platform in his musical art to display the injustice of over 400 years of American society on minorities. He takes pride in his African American culture as he courageously paints pictures of inequality, racial stereotypes, and the horrific reality of African American people from the past and the present in the United States. Big ups to Mr. @KendrickLamar (Instagram) for being himself, being innovative, and being honest in his Grammys’ performance. There hasn’t been too many African American public figures, entertainers, and or artists lately that has shown so much rebelling against mainstream audiences. Oh yeah, and congratulations to @KendrickLamar on the 11 nominations, 5 statue wins, and prodigious performance that will be talked about and remembered for many years to come. You are truly an Expectation Breaker, my brother!
